A Champion for Affordable Housing

Edafe sits on the stoop of his former building, wearing a green shirt. His expression is serious and focused, with no smile on his face, reflecting a moment of deep thought and determination.

“NYCHA is home to 1 in 17 New Yorkers, providing affordable housing to 528,105 authorized residents through public housing and Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) programs as well as Section 8 housing.”

Edafe knows firsthand the struggles many New Yorkers face in securing a safe and affordable place to call home. As the founder of the first shelter for asylum seekers in New York City, he has seen the impact of housing insecurity and has been at the forefront of advocating for those in need. His commitment to expanding affordable housing isn’t just a campaign promise—it’s a continuation of the work he’s dedicated his life to.

Every New Yorker deserves a place to call home,” Edafe often says, and he means it. His plan for District 7 is clear: advocate for inclusive housing developments, protect tenants’ rights, and work hand-in-hand with community organizations to create sustainable housing solutions. Edafe believes that housing is a right, not a privilege, and he’s ready to fight for it.

My Priority is to keep people in their homes. A fight to preserve existing affordable units, and expand rent stabilization measures to protect long term residents from displacement. I will fight to make all new developments affordable, put an end to exclusionary zoning rules.
